The Grampians region has a number of small townships within its area. Most of them were formed by various European settlements during the early 1900s. One such town is Cavendish, which was settled during the 1850’s. Today, Cavendish is a well-developed community with a population of around 500 people.

Located just a 30 minute drive from Hamilton, the township of Cavendish is an easily accessible area for tourists as it is a small town that can be completed with a walking tour.

Visitors to Cavendish looking for a camping site should check out the outdoor recreation reserve near the football grounds. Facilities include shower a with hot water, BBQ area and powered sites. As the area houses a number of forested areas surrounded by hilly regions, guests can enjoy an array of outdoor activities including rock climbing, hiking, mountain biking, cycling and picnicking.

Scenic drives are also popular across the beautiful Blackwood forest and the nearby landscape which boasts volcanic features. Your scenic walk across the volcanic landscape is only a short walk and takes about 30 minutes to complete.
