Oliver’s Lake, Nature & Conservation Reserve, Duchembegarra Victoria

The lake is a world-renowned spot for bird watching as it is home to an array of bird species. The lake is home to thousands of birds each year during the migration periods, so it is not uncommon to find the area crowded with native bird life. Depending on the time of your visit, look out for the Banded Stilts that arrive in spring after their migration. The birds are known to feed on the brine shrimp that flourishes in Oliver’s Lake. Other bird species to be on the lookout for include Black-winged stilts, the Blue-winged parrots as well as Avocets.

Oliver’s Lake is open to the public all year round. Some of the amenities provided include washroom facilities and ample parking. There are no shops nearby, so you may want to carry your own food particularly for those with kids. The lake is an idyllic location to enjoy a picnic as you marvel at the biodiversity around the lake.

Once you have finished at Oliver’s Lake, you could also check out Lake Wyn Wyn and Lake Natimuk which are located nearby. Head south to Horsham for any accommodation needs and restaurants and cafes.
