Summerfield Wines is a renowned winery in Moonambel. This family-run establishment has been recognised as one of Australia’s top 100 wine producers. If you’re a fan of bold reds or Australian wines in general, it’s highly recommended to spend a few hours at Summerfield Wines. Look for Mark Summerfield, the owner and a fourth-generation winemaker, who will regale you with his fascinating stories of traditional wine production. They also have cosy studio apartments for those who would like to stay a few nights.

Taltarni Vineyards has been around since 1969 and is regarded as a pioneer winery in the Victoria Pyrenees region. It is owned by John Goelet, a descendent of a Bordeaux wine family. Their first few plantings were Bordeaux varieties such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc. They eventually expanded to offer world-class Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, and Shiraz wines, among many others.

Moonambel’s history dates back to 1860, which was when gold was first found here. The town’s creek valley was used prior to that, serving as a gold escort path for diggers travelling from Victoria to Adelaide. It is widely believed that the name Moonambel was derived from an Aboriginal word which means, ‘hollow in the hills’.

If you are looking for a place to stay, there is some accommodation available in town, which includes a hotel, cottages and winery accommodation.
