Church of the Immaculate Conception

The Church of the Immaculate Conception in Ararat is one of the most beautiful churches in the region.

It was built back in 1858 by Melbourne’s Bishop James Alipius Goold.

Fr. Hogan, a Mr Michael Ryan architect if Ararat, requested plans to design a church inspired by the styles of an Italian villa. The church was planned to have a front-facing view of Barkley Street. However, in 1927 the church was demolished, and a new church was built using the foundation stones.

The Church of Immaculate Conception caught on fire back in 2007, but this gave them a chance to build a parish centre which is now located behind the primary church. The centre is used for baptisms, conferences, general meetings, and other events.

Masses take place at 10:30am on Sundays and is located at 304 Barkley Street.
