Australia Day Ararat

Celebrated on January 26th, Australia day is a public holiday that honours the arrival of the first British Fleet on Australian soil.

Visitors to Ararat can join in on the festivities to commemorate the day, with a local community event held each year at the Alexandra Oval Community Centre, Ararat Outdoor Pool and Alexandra Gardens.

Australia Day Ararat – 2020 Date & Program, Alexandra Oval Victoria

Australia Day recognises that on 26th January 1788, the first British fleet arrived at Port Jackson in Australia. The event is celebrated to reflect the rich history, diverse society and the unique heritage of Australia.

The Australia Day celebrations in Ararat kick off from midday at the Alexandra Oval Community Centre with a free barbecue lunch provided by the Council and prepared by the Ararat Lions Club.  Official proceedings will then begin at 1pm with Australia Day awards presented, a performance by the Ararat Rural City Band guest speaker Bill Kusznirczuk.

This will then be followed by free activities in the Alexandra Gardens from 2pm – 6pm; including fresh popcorn, slushies and fairy floss, an acoustic performance by Jacob Hamilton, an adult and children-friendly giant jumping castle and slide, and finally, free entry to the Ararat Olympic Outdoor Pool.

Pool staff will also be there handing out free Australian flags and temporary tattoos to help spread that unique Aussie cheer.

So come along in your best Aussie gear and get involved in this special day to celebrate all the best things about being Australian!
