Australia Day Ararat

Celebrated on January 26th, Australia day is a public holiday that honours the arrival of the first British Fleet on Australian soil.

Visitors to Ararat can join in on the festivities to commemorate the day, with a local community event held each year at the Alexandra Oval Community Centre, Ararat Outdoor Pool and Alexandra Gardens.

Australia Day recognises that on 26th January 1788, the first British fleet arrived at Port Jackson in Australia. The event is celebrated to reflect the rich history, diverse society and the unique heritage of Australia.

The Australia Day celebrations in Ararat kick off from 9am at the Alexandra Oval Community Centre with a free barbecue breakfast provided by the Council and prepared by the Ararat Lions Club.  Official proceedings will then begin at 10am with ARCC Australia Day awards presented, Australia Day Ambassador Duncan Stalker, and live music.

This will then be followed by free activities in the Alexandra Gardens from 12pm – 2pm; including live music from the Double Agents from 12-3pm, jumping castle, face painting, and Something Sweet Gelato. There is also FREE pool entry from 6am to right up until 7:30pm.

So come along in your best Aussie gear and get involved in this special day to celebrate all the best things about being Australian!
