One of the largest celebrations held throughout the country year after year is Australia Day. Celebrated on January 26th, Australia Day is a public holiday that honours the arrival of the first British Fleet on Australian soil.
Visitors to Hamilton can join in on the festivities to commemorate the day with a local community event held each year in the Hamilton Botanic Gardens.

The Southern Grampians Shire Council’s official Australia Day Celebration will be held on 26 January 2024 at the Hamilton Botanic Gardens from 10:30am. The wet weather venue has been confirmed as the Hamilton Performing Arts Centre.
COVID-safe food will be provided and distributed via the Hamilton Lions Club, with entertainment provided from local musicians.
Events also take place in towns throughout the Southern Grampians Shire in Victoria.
- COLERAINE: 8:00am at Coleraine Tourist Information Centre, Pilleau St
- DUNKELD: 8:00am at Dunkeld Memorial Park, Parker Street
- PENSHURST: 8:30am at Penshurst Botanic Gardens, Martin St
- BALMORAL: 10:30am at Seymour Park, corner of Glendinning and Stirling Streets.
- BRANXHOLME: 5:30pm – 8pm at Heritage Park, off Henty Highway
- GLENTHOMPSON: 5pm at Glenthompson Lions Park
- BYADUK: 8:30am at Byaduk Sports Pavilion, 1 Byaduk-Penshurst Rd
- CAVENDISH: 9:30am – 10:30am at Cavendish Town Square, Scott St
