Hamilton Harness Racing Track will host the Matthew’s Petroleum Hamilton Pacing Cup and Alexandra House Hamilton Trotters Cup as some of the most incredible Harness Racing action travels Victoria.

The Hamilton Pacing Cup goes back to 1949 when we saw legendary trotter Maori’s Idol take out the cup against a field of pacers in 1977. Advance Attack is also part of history, becoming the first to go back-to-back in ‘07/’08. The Hamilton Trotters Cup looks to build on its short history, as the 2-minute barrier still looks to be broken. Margaret Ruth, driven by Anne-Maree Conroy, came the closest in 2020, running a 2:01.1

The event is culturally significant in the region because harness racing, locally known as the trots, is a popular spectator sport in the country, with vast sums of money wagered each year.

The sport involves Standardbred horses that are made to race around a track, pulling their drivers using a two-wheeled cart known as the sulky, bike, or gig. The Standardbred horses compete in pacing and trotting, hence the event’s name.

The Hamilton Pacing Cup is a terrific, fun way for community members and families to get together for a full day of exciting activities. It is organized by the Hamilton Harness Racing Club and is held at the Hamilton Racecourse on Ballarat Road.
