Tarrington

Tarrington is a popular community located close to the busy city of Hamilton. As a quaint township with numerous amenities, Tarrington is a renowned residential town in the Grampians region.

Originally known as Hochkirk, the town changed its name to Tarrington in 1916. The town’s original name was given to it by its German settlers but was changed years later owing to world events at the time.

Visitors to the picturesque town of Hamilton often come here on cycling tours, this is because of the scenic bike tracks that stretch over the landscape. Enthusiastic cyclists can take the 10 km cycle track from Hamilton to Tarrington and enjoy the scenic views along the way.

Another iconic part of this town is the local Lutheran school, St. Michaels. This school is the oldest of its kind in the country and was constructed more than a century ago. It has been well maintained over the years and walking within the school property feels like taking a walk back in time to when the first settlers from Germany arrived.

Tarrington offers an unparalleled opportunity to see the iconic vineyards that dot the region. One of the popular activities in the town is to visit the vineyard. There is also a winery that is worth checking out: Pierrepoint Wines.

Pierrepoint Wines is a family-owned vineyard and winery that offers bed and breakfast for an unforgettable experience. Visitors are allowed to walk among the vines, explore the area around the lake and even spend time surrounded by nature. This is an excellent venue for destination events.

Accommodation is available within the town too and in nearby Hamilton. If you are interested in booking accommodation in Tarrington, click the links below to explore the options in the region.
