Amphitheatre

Amphitheatre is a small town located along the Pyrenees Highway; southwest of Avoca in Victoria.

Its history goes back to the 1800s; particularly during the gold rush after gold was first discovered in 1853.

Soon after the discovery of gold, the first settlement of the town was established. However, its original location is south of the current location; in an actual natural amphitheatre from where it gets its name.

A post office and railway were eventually built to accommodate the growing population.

Today, Amphitheatre remains a small, charming town. It has a primary school, pub/hotel, park, post office, ice cream shop, and a handful of accommodation for travellers.
